On December 4, 2008, Geza Vermes, an international authority on religious history, was awarded an honorary doctorate by Central European University. Geza Vermes is Professor Emeritus of Jewish Studies, University of Oxford, Fellow of Wolfson College, Fellow of the British Academy and the European Academy of Arts, Sciences and Humanities, and Director of the Forum for Qumran Research, Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies.
